Most of us believe we see things as they are.

We don’t.

We see things as we are.

And this is how we move through life. We see and experience the world not as it is, but through the filters of who we are; our biases, our beliefs, our assumptions, our judgments, and our unhealed wounds.

We hear what validates us and dismiss what contradicts us.

We judge people in seconds based on appearance or past experiences.

We remember what supports our story and forget what doesn’t.

And we often mistake our filtered perceptions for truth.

The “truth” as you see it is not necessarily the actual truth – it’s just your truth.

We see and believe things that are filtered through our fears, our past experiences, our unhealed wounds, and our inherited beliefs. We look at a person and see them less intelligent than we think we are. We look at a situation and see something we think should be better. We look at ourselves and see the story we tell ourselves in our heads. And from those filters, we react. Quickly. Automatically. Often in ways we regret. We know we could have done better, but we did not respond with our full presence in play, we reacted with an emotionally triggered automatic reaction.

This month at The Church of Psychedelics, we are working with Images — the fourth factor of our inner state of being. And in the first week of April, we are asking one of the most powerful questions on The Golden Path regarding the images our imagination is creating:

Are you actually seeing clearly?

The Beat Before the Drop

Between every stimulus and every response, there is a moment. A breath. There’s a space between the in-breath and the out-breath where everything is at a still point –– like the moment in a song that’s the pause before the beat drops.

In that pause, something extraordinary becomes possible. You stop reacting and the potential for you to respond is available. In this moment, it’s up to you to now make the conscious decision to either react or respond.

Reacting is automatic. It is the nervous system moving faster than the higher self. It is the wound answering before the wisdom can speak. Responding, on the other hand, is conscious. It is grounded. It carries the full weight of your awareness rather than the full force of your fear.

The practice of Seeing Clearly begins here — not with better thinking, but with a willingness to pause.

Removing the Filter

Here is what most of us are carrying without knowing it: a lens so thick with judgment, opinion, and assumption that we haven’t truly seen another person — or ourselves — in years.

To see clearly, we must first be willing to remove the filter.

This means looking without immediately labeling. It means sitting with what is actually in front of us before we decide what it means. It means releasing the need to be right long enough to ask — what if I’m not seeing the whole picture?

One of the highest marks of spiritual intelligence is the ability to genuinely consider that what you may consider to be the truth might be wrong — not as a defeat, but as an act of courageous openness. It shows that you are open to elevate your mind and that you’re teachable. Especially about those things that you feel completely certain of.

This is not weakness. This is advanced spiritual intelligence in action.

Instinct and Intuition as Sacred Guides

Once you have created space — once the filter has been lowered and the pause has been honored — something remarkable begins to speak.

Your instincts. Your intuition.

These are not random feelings. Within the teaching of Ayüna and The Golden Path, instincts and intuition are understood as the first clear signals of deeper knowing. They are the body’s wisdom and the spirit’s compass working in tandem. When judgment is removed, these voices are no longer drowned out.

Learning to trust them is part of the inner work. Not blindly — but consciously. With practice, with patience, and with the humility to stay curious about what they are showing you.

There Are No Absolutes

Perhaps the most liberating teaching woven through Seeing Clearly is this:

There are no absolutes.

For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. For every truth, there is another truth standing across from it. The world is not black and white — and the moment we treat it as if it is, we stop seeing. We start projecting.

The Golden Path does not ask you to abandon your convictions. It asks you to hold them loosely enough that life can teach you something new. This is what it means to be teachable ,and is one of the essential qualities for anyone walking a spiritual path.

Being teachable doesn’t mean believing everything you hear. It means remaining genuinely open. It means saying, I don’t know everything. Show me more. It means allowing the mystery to be mysterious without needing to collapse it into certainty.

Seeing Clearly as a Spiritual Practice

On The Golden Path, we work with twelve factors of our inner state of being — the root traits that make us human. Images are one of those roots. The pictures that our imagination creates that we hold inside us — of ourselves, of others, of what is possible — shape everything that grows above ground.

When those images are clouded by old pain, unexamined bias, or fear-driven narratives, the whole being of who we are suffers.

But when we commit to seeing clearly — when we pause, when we release judgment, when we trust our inner knowing, when we stay open to being wrong — those inner images begin to shift. And as they shift, so does our awareness and consciousness.

This week, we invite you to practice one simple thing: the sacred pause. Before you respond to a difficult conversation, a triggering situation, or even your own inner critic — let the beat drop. Breathe. Ask yourself: Am I seeing this clearly? Or am I seeing it through the lens of something older?

That single question is the beginning of transformation.
