TATtoo is a rare, non-sporulating "blob" mutation isolated from the TAT (True Albino Teacher) strain of Psilocybe cubensis — and TAT is itself an albino expression of the classic Golden Teacher. Instead of forming normal caps and stems, TATtoo grows as dense, tightly packed, pearlescent lobes, a morphology closely resembling the well-known Enigma mutation. Because it produces no spores, it can only be propagated from living tissue, which is why it is slow, difficult, and genuinely rare. No published laboratory potency testing exists for TATtoo specifically — cultivators report it as very potent, and the comparable Enigma mutation has tested extremely high, but those are reputation and resemblance rather than measurement of this strain.

What Is TATtoo?
TATtoo is one of the strangest things in the Psilocybe cubensis world: a mushroom variety that has largely stopped producing mushrooms.
It began as a mutation isolated out of TAT — True Albino Teacher — and what was isolated was not a better-looking fruit but a blob: dense, cap-less, gill-less, spore-free tissue that grows in tightly packed pearlescent lobes. A cultivator found that growth form, liked what it was, and separated it out to propagate on its own. That is what an "isolate" means here, and it is why TATtoo exists as a named strain at all.
The name is a compression of its parent: TAT + the blob-isolate suffix growers gave it. It is not related to body art, and it is not "Tattooed Warrior" — a name that appears in some secondhand lists but is not supported by any primary cultivation source.
The Lineage: Golden Teacher → TAT → TATtoo
Three generations, each a step further from ordinary:
Golden Teacher is the most recognizable cubensis strain in the world — golden-capped, moderate in potency, gentle in reputation, and the strain most people have actually heard of. It is the baseline the whole family descends from.
TAT (True Albino Teacher) is Golden Teacher with the pigment removed — a striking, pale-white expression of the same line, well regarded among cultivators for both its appearance and its character. It fruits normally: real caps, real stems, real spores.
TATtoo is the mutation that came out of TAT and stopped fruiting normally altogether. It is the third step, and the one that breaks the pattern.
So a strain that reads as exotic and unfamiliar is, three generations back, the most familiar mushroom there is. Read the beginning of that line: Golden Teacher guide →
Worth knowing: TAT has another well-known offshoot. Jack Frost is TAT crossed with Albino Penis Envy — a normal-fruiting strain rather than a blob, and therefore TATtoo's sibling off the same parent line.

What a "Blob" Mutation Actually Is
Worth explaining plainly, because it governs everything else about this strain.
A normal mushroom is a reproductive organ. The cap opens, the gills mature, spores drop, and the organism reproduces. A blob mutation is a mushroom that has lost that program. The tissue still grows — often vigorously — but it never organizes itself into a cap-and-gill structure. It piles into dense, convoluted, brain-like or coral-like lobes instead.
Three consequences follow, and all three matter:
- No spores means no spore prints. The strain cannot be distributed or preserved the way normal strains are. It survives only as living tissue, passed culture to culture.
- Rarity is structural, not marketing. A strain that cannot be shipped as a spore print stays inside a small circle of cultivators by default.
- It is difficult to grow. TATtoo is documented as a slow-growing culture suited to experienced cultivators — Enigma, TATtoo, and Omni are routinely grouped as the mutations that demand patience and a steady hand.
How Potent Is It? (An Honest Answer)
We do not know, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
That is an unusual thing to write on a strain page, so here is exactly where the evidence stands:
- There is no published laboratory potency testing specific to TATtoo. It has not appeared in Oakland Hyphae Psilocybin Cup results, which is the credible public source for cubensis potency data. Where we can give you hard numbers for Penis Envy (~50–100%+ above average cubensis, top samples near 2.9%) and Tidal Wave (typical ~1.0–1.4%, with a 3.82% record sample), for this strain we have none.
- Its reputation is high. Cultivators consistently describe TATtoo as very potent, and that reputation is broad enough to report.
- The Enigma comparison is suggestive, not conclusive. TATtoo's closest relative in form is Enigma, the non-sporulating blob isolate out of the Tidal Wave line — and Enigma produced the 3.82% record. It is a reasonable hypothesis that blob mutations concentrate tryptamines, since tissue that never spends energy on spore production has that energy to spend elsewhere. It is not a finding. Two strains sharing a growth morphology does not establish that they share a potency.
The practical conclusion is the same either way: treat TATtoo as a high-potency strain. Not because a lab said so, but because the reputation points that direction, the structural analogy points that direction, and where potency is uncertain the only safe assumption is the stronger one.
Where we have data, we will give you numbers. Where we do not, we will tell you that instead of borrowing someone else's. The absence of a measurement is itself information.

How does TATtoo compare to other strains?
TATtoo and Enigma
These two get confused constantly, so:
| TATtoo | Enigma | |
|---|---|---|
| Parent line | TAT (True Albino Teacher) ← Golden Teacher | Tidal Wave ← Penis Envy × B+ |
| Form | Non-sporulating blob | Non-sporulating blob |
| Appearance | Pale, pearlescent, tightly packed fins | Dense blue-grey brain-like lobes |
| Lab-tested | No published data | Yes — 3.82% total tryptamines, Fall 2021 Cup |
| Relationship | Parallel, not related — the same mutation type arising independently in two different lineages | |
They are not versions of each other. They are the same kind of thing in two different families — which is what makes the comparison interesting and also what makes borrowing Enigma's number for TATtoo unjustified.
How to Recognize It
TATtoo does not look like a mushroom, and that is the whole identification.
Expect dense, convoluted, tightly packed lobes with a pearlescent, pale, almost ceramic surface — closer to coral or brain tissue than to a cap-and-stem fruit. There is no recognizable cap, no gills, no spore drop. Growth forms in compact cakes rather than discrete mushrooms.
Its pale colouring is inherited from the TAT side of the family; its shapelessness is the mutation. Together they produce a very distinctive-looking thing that is hard to mistake for anything else except another blob strain like Enigma. (Descriptive identification only. This page does not cover cultivation.)
Effects People Report
Effects are individual and never guaranteed, and the reported record for this strain is thinner than for the well-documented ones — another thing worth saying out loud.
What is reported consistently is intensity: a strong, immersive experience with pronounced visual activity and a deeply introspective character. Some describe a Golden Teacher-like warmth underneath it — an inheritance from the far end of the family — carried at a much higher volume. That combination, if it holds, is unusual: familiar in character, unfamiliar in strength.
Because the community record here is smaller, we would weight these reports less heavily than Penis Envy's well-established reputation, not more. (Commonly reported experiences, not medical claims or promises.)
Respect & Safety
This is the strain on this site with the least data and the highest reputation, which is a combination that deserves particular care:
- Assume it is strong. Uncertain potency plus a high-potency reputation means erring toward caution, not curiosity.
- Uncertainty is itself a risk factor. With Penis Envy or Tidal Wave you at least know roughly where you stand. Here you do not, and that argues for more preparation, not less.
- TATtoo is entirely too potent and too deep of an experience for beginners. New members should begin with a gentler sacrament such as WhiteBilly.
- Set, setting, and a sober guide. High-intensity experiences are where preparation and support earn their keep.
- Know the interactions and contraindications. Psilocybin can interact with certain medications, including some antidepressants, and is not appropriate for everyone — including people with certain psychiatric histories.
- This page gives no dosage instructions by design. Measured, guided practice — not a number from a web page — is how we approach a sacrament this strong.

The Sacrament
Within the Church, TATtoo is not a product on a shelf — it is a sacrament held inside a practice: preparation, intention, a measured approach, and integration afterward. It sits at the deepest end of our sacramental lineup and is intended for members who have developed the preparation, experience, and spiritual practice to approach it with respect.
Members can work with this strain through Visionary, our large-dose sacrament — offered with the guidance and community that make strong medicine safe medicine. If you are considering it, the honest counsel is to arrive at it rather than start with it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q.What is the TATtoo mushroom strain?
TATtoo is a rare, non-sporulating blob mutation isolated from the TAT (True Albino Teacher) strain of Psilocybe cubensis. Rather than forming normal caps and stems, it grows as dense, pearlescent lobes, and it produces no spores — so it can only be propagated from living tissue.
Q.What is True Albino Teacher (TAT)?
TAT is an albino expression of the classic Golden Teacher strain — the same well-known lineage with the pigment removed, producing striking pale-white fruits. TAT fruits normally; TATtoo is the blob mutation that was isolated out of it.
Q.How potent is TATtoo?
No published laboratory testing exists for this strain specifically. Cultivators report it as very potent, and the structurally comparable Enigma mutation has tested extremely high, but neither is a measurement of TATtoo. The safe assumption is that it is strong.
Q.Is TATtoo the same as Enigma?
No. Both are non-sporulating blob mutations, but they come from different families — Enigma from the Tidal Wave line, TATtoo from the TAT line. They are the same kind of mutation arising independently, not versions of one another.
Q.Why does TATtoo have no spores?
It is a blob mutation: the tissue never organizes into the cap-and-gill structure that produces spores. That is why it is rare and difficult — it cannot be distributed as a spore print and survives only as living culture.
Q.Is TATtoo related to Golden Teacher?
Yes, directly. Golden Teacher → TAT (its albino expression) → TATtoo (a mutation isolated from TAT). The most exotic strain in our lineup descends from the most familiar one.
Q.What is the spiritual nature of TATtoo?
Natural psychedelics such as psilocybin mushrooms have been separated from much of humanity for generations through systems of prohibition, control, and stigma. In that separation, many people lost a living relationship with the mushroom as sacred medicine. Within our spiritual practice, TATtoo is approached with reverence as part of rebuilding that relationship — supporting deeper self-awareness, honest inner reflection, and a deeper relationship with source consciousness.
The Bottom Line
TATtoo is the rarest thing in our catalogue and the one we can tell you the least about with certainty. Its lineage is clear and genuinely remarkable — Golden Teacher, made albino, then mutated into something that no longer fruits like a mushroom at all. Its strength is widely reported and entirely unmeasured. We would rather hand you that distinction clearly than dress a reputation up as a result.
Treat it as strong, treat it as the last door,
and treat the uncertainty as part of the reason to prepare.
